Donating Blood for Mothers

May is more than Mother’s Day – it’s a time when blood donations often slow. Mothers are among those who rely on blood every day, during childbirth, surgeries, cancer treatment , and emergencies. In fact:   Pregnancy-related complications require blood transfusions for 1 in every 83 deliveries in the U.S. Obstetrics and gynecology are among the top 10 medical specialties that need the most blood for patients. About 205,000 units of blood are used in the U.S. each year for OB/GYN patients. Many Mothers is proud to be partnering with Vitalant New Mexico to host the Donate for Mothers Blood Drive. Come to the Santa Fe Place Mall on Saturday, May 2nd, from 11 AM – 3 PM. Helping New Mothers at Home April 29, 2024 Keely McDonald and her partner moved to Santa Fe from Rhode Island in August to help take care of her mother. New to the area and six months pregnant, the couple didn’t know anyone, and McDonald was desperate to find community. She searched online and talked with locals — many were recommending the same organization. “I kept hearing Many Mothers, Many Mothers,” she says.
